COVID-19 Update March 26th

Thursday, March 26th, 2020

I would like to please update everyone with the changes at the practice that will come into effect immediately. These changes are driven by my own thoughts of where the practice sits in the new environment.

I believe that right now there should be as little movement of people as possible, unless absolutely necessary. After many hours of thought, as well as listening and talking to people that work in different modes of health care, isolation of as many people right now is the only way to slow this spread down. In turn we protect our most vulnerable and those working in the front-line.

This will no doubt cause my business to slow to an unfortunate crawl, however if this means we come out the other side faster, that will be the best result for myself and the economy as a whole.

PLEASE NOTE: The practice IS NOT CLOSING completely.

All I ask for the moment is for me to see those of you that need to be seen acutely or urgently. I will be available for appointments as required, and that means I will be at the practice on a daily basis to address your concerns. However I will need you to call ahead to organise an appointment as well as collecting glasses and contacts etc. This will include those of you that need new glasses urgently, as well as the more acute ocular events.

The practice may not be open from 9-5.30 as it has been for the last 18 years. More than likely it will be half days, and generally in the mornings. The phone will be re-directed to my mobile. If you have any trouble getting through, you can call me directly on 0434352294.

I plan to be available and honour those that have made appointments recently, however we will call before as you may feel that you would prefer to wait for the dust to settle. Everyone that is due for their regular reviews in the coming weeks/months, you will not be forgotten as the staff here have strategies in place that will ensure you will be contacted directly to organise appointments, once Covid-19 lets us move forward.

Finally, unless there is a forced closure of optometry services, I will be here for appointments moving forward, just in a restructured capacity.

I will keep you all posted on any further changes. Lets hope that I can get more than 2-3 days before this event requires me to update you any further.

COVID-19 Update 24th March

Tuesday, March 24th, 2020

Optometrists have been advised that they can continue to practice with new protocols in place, as long as they feel comfortable doing so. At the moment, that is certainly the case here.

We are implementing the change in the practice where Simon only wants to see patients in the ‘at risk’ group early in the morning when we can shut the shop off to the public. This will ensure that they do not have contact with anyone else.

Moving forward, Simon wants to maintain as much separation in the practice between people as possible. This might mean waiting outside for a short period of time, 5-10 minutes, if you are collecting glasses or making appointments.

For all contact lens wearers, to avoid the need to come into the practice, we do have the option of shipping the contacts directly to you if that option suits you better at this time.

COVID-19 Statement

Tuesday, March 17th, 2020

Here at the Practice, my staff and I have had numerous discussions about how we are going to navigate these uncertain times. Please be aware that our FIRST priority is the well-being of all our patients, and to ensure this we have implemented the new cleaning and hygiene procedures required. These procedures are set out by relevant authorities, namely our governing bodies of Optometry Australia and The Optometry Board of Australia. On top of this I am constantly being updated by Queensland Government health directives as they apply to the practice of optometry.

Rest assured that my staff will not be attending work if showing any signs of illness, including myself. Thankfully at the moment we are all fully fit and it is definitely business as usual. The last thing we need is for our hard work to be undone by someone that is unwell coming into the practice. I already thank those of you that have postponed appointments in light of this.

As far as providing glasses and contact lenses goes, all of my suppliers at present are unaffected, and I am happy to note that our orders are arriving on time, which is fantastic. As far as providing eye examinations go, while I am well and on deck, all will function as normal, with waiting times for appointments likely to be reduced in the short term.

Please take care of yourselves and I look forward to seeing you in the practice in the near future.
