Therapeutic Qualification

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018

There are interesting and fulfilling times ahead here at the practice following Simon’s recent completion of his Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics studies. What this will mean is that once the regulatory bodies have endorsed the qualification, Simon will be able to prescribe a variety of topical medications (eye-drops) ranging from anti-biotic drops to steroid and anti-glaucoma medications.

How this will change the practice in the immediate term will be very subtle, however over the next 12 months the practice will invest in new consulting-room equipment that will complement the new qualification and provide patients with more comprehensive and detailed assessment.

In the coming months we will continue to update you as these improved services are introduced into the practice.

It’s back – Eye Test and Dinner Deal

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018

Here at Stones Corner Eyewear, to the best of our knowledge, we offer the only “Eye Test and Dinner Deal” in the country, possibly the world. Simon is again happy to put this promotion together for 2018 and this year with a slight twist. This year’s offer applies to people that travel a decent distance to see Simon.

If you live further that 20km from the practice (as measured by Google Maps….) and plan to visit for an eye test before the end of November, please enter the competition as you will also receive a dinner at The Bent Elbow in Stones Corner, straight after your eye test.

The first 5 people that express interest and are eligible will go into the draw for the “ETADD”. The fine print is that Simon will be joining you for dinner, so if you are thinking his company may not be your cup of tea, then maybe don’t enter. Past winners are still attending the practice so it is obviously not too daunting a proposal.

You can please respond via email simon@sc-optom.com or phone 33970000 or sms to 0434352294. Winner will be notified as soon as the draw takes place, ideally within 1-2 weeks

Presby-what???

Saturday, August 18th, 2018

Speaking from first hand experience, the most common form of visual decline happens in our 40′s and is referred to as presbyopia. It is when the lens in our eye loses its flexibility and we can’t focus on near objects anymore. One of my numerous speech pathologist patients was in to see me recently and when explaining that she had presbyopia, she told me that there is a condition called presbyphonia that I will also get at some point – great!!! It is when your voice changes and I will have an ‘old-man’ voice. So as it turns out, the prefix ‘presby’ is Greek and refers to old/elderly.

If this comes up at your next school trivia night, think of me, maybe? Not?

“I Look Smart In My Glasses”

Friday, August 10th, 2018

A study has revealed people who wear glasses could actually be more intelligent than those with great eyesight. Researchers from the University of Edinburgh analysed the genetics of 300, 486 people of European descent between the ages of 16 and 102, and found those with a higher cognitive function are 28% more likely to wear glasses.

Optometry 2040

Friday, August 10th, 2018

Simon was recently invited to a forum hosted by the National Association of Optometry Australia, with the topic of “Optometry in 2040″

A task force has been assembled in order to try and foresee what the profession will look like in the future.  Very thought provoking to say the least.

For example, Will eye testing for spectacles be carried out remotely in 2040? (without the patient/Optometrist being in the same location???)

VERY LIKELY!!!!!!

Vision is likely to be enhanced beyond what at the moment is considered optimal vision (ie 20/20)

Optometrists are likely to become sub-specialized as technology and demographics diversify.

Undergraduate courses are likely to be completely different to what Universities are pumping out a present,  Interesting Indeed!

The Final Hurdle is Here

Wednesday, August 8th, 2018

With a well deserved pass mark achieved on his final Oral Exam, Simon is now qualified to use a wide range of topical medications (eye drops).  Once the regulatory bodies have stamped the paperwork, the prescription pads will arrive and Simon will have the ability to prescribe as required, Finally!!
